Batman 1986-1987: Year One & Year Two

These stories published in the mid-80s are the perfect place to start for a reader who is interested in modern Batman comics. If you just want the highlights, stick with Frank Miller's two classic books: the alternate-future story The Dark Knight Returns and the definitive origin story Year One. If you're interested in diving deeper, follow our recommended reading order for stories about Jason Todd, who is the second Robin, and Joe Chill, who is the criminal who killed Batman's parents, by creators such as Mike W. Barr, Alan Davis, Todd MacFarlane, and Max Allan Collins. Recommended reading order: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS #1-4 (The Dark Knight Returns) DETECTIVE COMICS #568-574 (The Dark Knight Detective Vol 1) BATMAN #402-403 (Second Chances) BATMAN #404-407 (Year One) DETECTIVE COMICS #575-578 and FULL CIRCLE (Year Two) BATMAN #408-412 and "Love Bird" from BATMAN ANNUAL #11 (Second Chances) DETECTIVE COMICS #579 (The Dark Knight Detective Vol 1)
