This Murakami book has layers of magical realism, his hallmark, though in this case I was less enchanted than usual. The story seemed to end before the essential themes were fully explored and the reader's biggest questions answered. I recognize the value of leaving a bit of mystery at the end, but in this case I felt as though a chapter (or three!) were missing. Not a bad read, especially for one who feels nostalgic for their college years, but a slight letdown at the conclusion.
