This is a decent vampire movie in large part because of the enduring sophistication of Anne Rice's story (not to mention the set & costume crew, holy cow), & all casting controversy aside, it still plays pretty well in my opinion. Against the superficial luxury of the vampires' lifestyle & their various superhuman abilities, ultimately what we're presented with is the terrible smallness & sorrow of their world, the isolation, the psychic dissonance of living outside the strictures of time & death, making the vampire legend for the rest of us, curiously enough, very much 'a celebration of life' like on all the funeral flyers. Also recommended for anyone who hates annoying French theater people. CR
