Wow! What a story (true, which makes it even cooler). And what phenomenal acting! Of course Daniel-Day Lewis was incredible, but I thought Huge O'Connor who played the part of the character as a boy was just as amazing. Loved this movie!

Perseverance, determination and overcoming adversity. This is based on the true story of Christy Brown a person born with Cerebral Palsy in 1932 in Ireland. At that time children born with CP were usually put into institutions. Cristy lived at home with his extremely large family and was treated just the same as everyone else, (in my opinion it was a bit like a 'sink or swim' exstince). He couldn't speak, or control his body movements except for his left foot. At the age of 19 he received some help with his speech. Using his left foot he painted and using a typewriter he wrote several books and poetry. A movie worth watching. Excellent acting all around!

Kind of a take-off of A Beautiful Mind; Russel Crowe is an infinitely more talented actor.

Daniel-Day-Lewis has an exceptional film career. One of his best films is definitely "My Left Foot". He portrays Christy Brown who has cerebral palsy and can only use his left foot. Christy grows up with a strong mother and he becomes a very independent man. He is not a saint by any means. He can drink too much and use profanity. What is striking is his compassion for his family and friends. "My Left Foot" earned Daniel-Day-Lewis the Academy Award for Best Actor and Brenda Fricker Best Supporting Actress. The whole cast deserves awards especially the Director Jim Sheridan. He also directed Daniel-Day-Lewis is "In the Name of the Father" and "The Boxer" are all worthy of your consideration. The story of Christy Brown will amaze you and inspire you.

This is by no means a masterpiece but early on I could see why Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar. He is part of the reason why I was engaged.

A story about perseverence, and based on the real life of Christy Brown as told in his book "My Left Foot". This film is definetely worth watching. Great acting by many actors, and especially Daniel Day-Lewis and the boy who played the young Christy. Just imagine playing someone with severe cerebral palsy when you are fully able.

A very touching and slightly sad story of an individual with Cerebral Palsy and how he learns to do so much with his left foot which isn't affect as much as the rest of his body.

While this a profound and moving story I found the early section of the movie long, draggy and somewhat predictable. However, give it a chance. The acting is brilliant and there are many scenes that are real jewels.

Daniel Day-Lewis as someone with CP, directed by Jim Sheridan is unbelievable in this role. The love and determination of this character and his family is inspiring.
