Maya Stark, the assistant language therapist, is charged with making a connection with their high-profile patient. No matter how she tries, however, he refuses to answer questions about his father or the last ten years of his life But Maya, who was abandoned by her own mother, has secrets, too. And as she's drawn closer to this enigmatic boy who is no longer a boy, she'll risk everything to reunite him with his father who has disappeared from the known world"-- Provided by publisher.

The mentally disturbed “helping” the mentally disturbed, with a ridiculously improbable happy ending. Yikes. Like “Benny & Joon” without the humor, pathos, or great acting. Don’t waste your time. Watch “Benny & Joon” instead.

Really disappointed in this book after loving and recommending her first novel set in southern MN. Yes, too much about geology and the BWCA, but my real problem with it was the annoying narrator. Know-it-all and righteous, all the adults in her life except her father enabled her, and she used them. Her crush was violent and unpredictable. I speed read the last 120 pages just for the resolution.

A troubled young woman encounters a found young man who has been missing in the wilderness of the Boundary Waters for 10 years. They have a mysterious bond underneath their attraction. I happen to like the natural world description of the upper Minnesota Boundary Waters. As remote as can be. As remote as the characters are to normal. The author explores issues of being lost within oneself. I found the story powerfully irresistible.

I wanted to grip me in harder than it actually did. The first few chapters were slow and hard to get into. It did pick up A LOT in the last half. You do feel sorry for the main character once it all comes full circle.

I found it hard to believe this book was written by the same author as "Everything You Want Me to Be". For me, the story dragged and got bogged down by the descriptions of the history of the setting.
A disappointing read.

This turned out to be a compelling page turner unlike any books I have read lately. Filled with flawed characters, this thriller shines a light on mental illness and the healing powers of nature. I got a little lost in some of the rock details, but can certainly imagine the beauty of the agate pendant Maya wears in the book. The descriptions of Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters do much to encourage tourism in Minnesota.
