A melody mixture reminiscent of the early stuff (Pretty Hate Machine) and his work with Atticus Ross (The Social Network).

I really like the power of the first two songs including the voice modulations. Then my interest drops from there as the songs are too odd, but I guess it wouldn't be NIN without that.

Bad Witch concludes the trilogy of releases from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, starting with 2016's Not The Actual Events, and is very clearly the most adventurous, furious installment of the trilogy. The album dips into some borderline acid house territory, in terms of sound (not in terms of beat structure), with highly resonant, twisting, shrill synth patches on "Ahead of Ourselves" and "God Break Down the Door". Reznor also dusts off his saxophone to create some unique, as-of-yet-unheard textures for NIN. The use of breakbeat style drums on these tracks also set them apart from previous NIN material. This album is not for anyone looking for familiar NIN. And if you're wanting hooks and typical song structures, you probably will be disappointed, again. This album is pure sonic experimentation from Reznor and Ross - which is refreshing, given they are at a point in their careers where they don't necessarily have to keep reinventing themselves.
