This book is different from Polacco's other books in that the emphasis is not on the characters but on the titular quilt. In fact, the people in the book are illustrated in black and white, while the quilt is illustrated in vivid color. The book conveys the heartwarming message that even though society changes through the generations, families can still pass down their customs, memories, and love. The book is based on a true story.

Excellent story. Too bad more families don't follow traditions of quilt making to hand down to the next generation. Really like this Author's books . Haven't had a bad one yet .

This was a very touching story! I love reading and watching the generations continue the tradition of passing on the quilt and how the marriage custom evolved keeping some of the same traditions but adding others to it. It was so beautiful! Now I want to make a keeping quilt! :)
