I checked out this book because I love the author's young adult works, then found myself feeling blah about starting a crime/mystery/thriller. With a few days left before it was due, I half-heartedly picked it up and read a handful of pages. Then couldn't put it down. It masquerades as a crime thriller, but Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil is really a story about the profound beauty that can be seen when people, even seemingly damaged ones, place the people they love ahead of themselves. I finished it feeling deep admiration and loyalty toward a great number of entirely fictional characters.

Loved, loved this book. Well thought out plot. Interesting characters. Well done Melina Marchetta.

This story never stops. It's about Bish, a suspended cop trying to discover who bombed his daughter's bus - but so much more than that. He realizes that the quest for truth will take him to past cases he thought solved, and secrets long kept. Melina Marchetta keeps driving the story forward, with more details and more well-developed characters than you would have thought possible. I loved the writing style - there isn't a word wasted, and every detail is important.

Good read. Lots of twists and turns. Hoping this book is beginning of a series.

This is a GOOD thriller with twists and turns and many well-developed, well-written characters. There are a lot of names and relationships to keep straight, but the cast is interesting, if large, and there are some beautiful, caring moments throughout the book.
