It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman teetering on the verge of thirty must be in want of a husband. Not true for Manhattanite Elizabeth Scott. Instead of planning a walk down the aisle, she's crossing the pond with the only companion she needs--her darling dog, Bliss. Caring for a pack of show dogs in England seems the perfect distraction from the scandal that ruined her teaching career, and her reputation, in New York. What she doesn't count on is an unstoppable attraction to billionaire dog breeder Donovan Darcy. The London tycoon's a little bit arrogant, a whole lot sexy...and the chemistry between them is disarming. When passion is finally unleashed, might Elizabeth hope to take home more than a blue ribbon? --page 4 of cover.

As a fan of both dogs and Austen, I was initially unsure what to make of this. Modern adaptations of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice either hit the mark or leave readers wanting. Happily, Wilson’s novel belongs in the first group. Set in present day New York and London, Elizabeth Scott and Donovan Darcy meet and trade quips in the world of competitive dog shows. A lot reminds us that this is indeed the modern era: Starbucks, paparazzi and tabloids, Harrod’s pet spa (there really is one), and designer references (Chanel, Marchesa, etc.). There are recognizable elements from the original: great insight into human behaviour, plausible misunderstandings, and a great supporting cast of characters. All in all Unleashing Mr. Darcy is a light, fun reimagining of a classic and a great way to spend an afternoon. (submitted by CC)

"It is a truth universally acknowledged" that Teri Wilson has done it again with her modern take on yet another classic, beloved, and well known piece of literature.

The first novel of Wilson's that I read and enjoyed was "Unmasking Juliet," with its modern take/twist on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. I liked the romance between the star-crossed lovers(Leo and Juliet), the rivalry between the couples feuding chocolatier families(the Mezzanottes and the Arabellas), and the various mouthwatering descriptions of the chocolate confections Leo and Juliet created.

In "Unleashing Mr. Darcy," Teri creates a story centered around the world of competitive dog shows, and places well known characters from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in that world. Donovan(our Mr. Darcy)is a professional dog show judge, who also happens to be a wealthy blue blood. While Elizabeth Scott(not Bennet)is an American school teacher, who enjoys, as a hobby, entering her dog Bliss in these competitions. The two meet and butt heads when Donovan is a visiting judge(from the UK)at a local competition held in Elizabeth's home state(New Jersey). I liked the prickly, heated sexual attraction/chemistry Wilson was able to create between Darcy and Elizabeth. It created the perfect tension, coupled with the constant misunderstandings between the characters.

Having grown up devouring "Pride and Prejudice," the title of this book set my heart aflutter. Alas! Except for some names and some similarity in the plot this Harlequin Romance had nothing of the panache of Pride and Prejudice. Instead it was true to the Harlequin formula of the characters confused between love and lust with some intrigue thrown into the mix. If you like Harlequin romances and dogs (yes, lots about show dogs - hence the 'unleashing') you will love this book.

"He took a step closer. She could feel the heat coming off him, warming her skin. Surprisingly, it was like stepping into the sunshine after a long season of rain."-Elizabeth(describing the affects of Donovan's body)

"As I told you, I'm a man of my word. Which is the only thing keeping me from reaching across the table right now and kissing you within an inch of your life."-Donovan
