Hmmm...let me state it this way; if you loved the books, you probably won't like this movie. If you love the movie, then it might encourage you to read the books. The acting is fine and the production is OK, though a little on the cheap side. However, the movie zips through the storyline at warp speed, as though intent on cramming in as many commercials in as possible before the finish line. Dr. Paul is almost completely eliminated, Julian is done in about five minutes, and Cathy's lawyer-lover...well, most viewers don't really need 10 seconds of an NC17 scene to understand what's going down. Yes, this movie can be watched in about 90 minutes, but eliminating so many characters and simplifying so many others robs the storyline of about 95% of its power, resonance and suspense.

What greed can do to a person is unbelievable. The mother and grandmother were one and the same, and because of their fanaticism and ambition they thought only about themselves; the end result was as usual, children paid the price.
What I found horrible was the love the siblings had for each other when they broke the rules of societal mores and its taboo.
I wouldn't say this is a cheesy soap opera, I would say what happens to children when they're abandoned, neglected and survive with each other's strength. Unfortunately sometimes it winds up being twisted and perverse.

Sequel to the trashy Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind is equally trashy. Unfortunately we are missing the scene chewing Ellen Burstyn as the evil grandmother, who only is in a couple few couple of scenes. If you enjoy cheesy soap opera's you might like this, otherwise don't waste your time.
