The Buddha
[the Story of Siddhartha]
DVD - 2010
Two and a half millennia ago, a new religion was born in India, generated from the ideas of the Buddha, a mysterious Indian sage who gained enlightenment while he sat under a large, shapely fig tree. The Buddha never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth, only that he was a human being who had found a kind of serenity that others could find, too. This documentary tells the story of his life, a journey especially relevant in our own times.

Highly recommended for everyone who is curious to know about Buddhism. Amazing knowledge about Buddhism shown by Jane Hirshfield and others, wow!
Not bad but brutally boring. It took me three times to stay awake through certain sections. It is reminiscent of a high school documentary rather than a cinematic documentary....interesting facts, lacks the magic of life.
I wanted to watch The Buddha because while I thought of it as a gentle yet disciplined religion, I actually knew very little about it. The Buddha eased me into understanding the origins of this religion as well as to a better understanding of Buddhism today. I recommend this DVD, it is engaging, enlightening and entertaining.
Just watching this lowered my blood pressure. I never realized that Buddhism was based as much on personal discipline as spirituality. I really enjoyed this and moved on to books about Buddhism.
Excellent dvd.
The dvd is interesting mildly.
Though it is a documentary it does not capture the essentials of Buddhism nor does it treat early days of Buddha adequately.
