I saw this movie years ago and loved it, so I checked it out to watch again. However, there's something wrong with this particular disk. We'll let the librarians know, but be advised if you check it out that it may not play on your system.

This was not very surprising. The Spanish Prisoner is a confidence scheme and it was easy to spot as it unfolded. The too eager secretary, the apparently rich stranger, the process that's worth billions--it all was easy to figure out from the start. This is an older film so don't expect very good production values.

Just another great David Mamet noted, the acting is understated and characters are always complicated. Another of my favorite "con" movies is House of Games...check it out. a big vote for David Mamet.

This turned out to be far better than I though after watching the first few scenes. I too thought that the acting was so stiff, but later this apparent flaw is used to good measure.
Worth watching ... just don't give up half way through ...

Entertaining but the plot is not believable.

You definitely can't say that anyone overacted in this film, all the performances are very understated, bordering on bland. An interesting story however. I think that if this situation happened to us regular people, it would be very much like this movie.
