What a great tale. An eclectic cast that tells an endearing story. I thought it would get tiresome, the developmentally-challenged younger brother (a young DiCaprio), but there was a scene with his mother that was so touching, amazing acting. The performances, story, set, dynamic here really work very well and it all congealed into a rich story well told. Touching in an honest way.

This drama movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Darlene Cates, and Juliette Lewis. Gilbert Grape is a young man who must take care of his morbidly obese mother who is bedridden, as well as his younger brother who is mentally impaired. This leaves him feeling very overwhelmed with not many places to turn to, until he meets Becky. This movie is an emotional rollercoaster as things keep happening left and right. It also shows you what an amazing actor Leonardo DiCaprio is, even from a young age. I would rate this movie 4.5/5 stars and recommend it to those who like emotional and serious films.

One of the classics. Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing as a happy, energetic, mentally handicapped Arnie, making the movie into one of those laugh/cries due to the ironies of life.

Wild to see these actors at this stage in their careers....and diCaprio is something else. The cinematography is gorgeous and the climactic sequence is breathtaking. Way up on my list.

GREAT 1993 Lasse Hallstrom directed film about a diversely troubled family struggling to keep things together in a rural Iowa small town.
Superb performance by Leonardo DiCaprio as the younger brother with developmental disability; Johnny Depp also quite good.

Classic movie. The best thing Leonardo Dicaprio has done yet. Solid acting all round, and a great script. Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis are both great.

I loved this movie. I can see why Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp are great actors now as they both acted fantastically in this film. They don't make movies like this anymore.

I've watched this movie at least three times now over the years. It's just as good on the last viewing as the very first. I look forward to watching again in another 5 or 10 years. Leonardo DiCaprio's acting is amazing. There are so many very subtle nuances that he adds to a number of scenes. It's no wonder that he's the star that he is today.
