A visually beautiful movie about fathers coming to terms with loss and their sons.

We will never see the gates of heaven. Or, I'm honored it had to be you, (Tom).
Ebert gave it three stars. Too tragically Greek, too fated.
I protest. Best father-son film ever. The entire cast, including Jude Law and Daniel Craig are in top form. Was Hanks amazing in "Gump"? Yep. But this is the performance for me. Right up to the bitter end.

Hands up, who buys all-around nice guy Tom Hanks as a mob hitman? It's some pretty serious miscasting, as is Jude Law as a weasely killer who takes pictures of his victim. It's a nice period piece that feels airless. Paul Newman is great as an aging Irish gangster. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Daniel Craig, and Stanley Tucci co-star. Sam Mendes, who sometimes forgets he's British, directs. Based on a graphic novel that was inspired by "Lone Wolf and Cub."

A hit man for an Irish gang in the Depression-era Midwest, hit man Michael Sullivan is known to friends and enemies alike as the Angel of Death. Uncompromising in his work, Sullivan is just as devoted to his private life as an upstanding husband and father of two young boys. But when those worlds collide, taking the lives of his wife and younger son, Sullivan and his surviving son, Michael Jr. leave their sedate home life behind and embark on a startling journey of revenge and self-discovery.

Excellent movie, great acting, young Michael is amazing and Tom Hanks is wonderful as always. Very violent movie. It takes place in 1931, the stage sets are awesome, I love all the vintage cars, great costuming. Complex story about father and son loyalty, gangster family loyalty and simply taking what they believe is theirs to take. I would like to watch this movie a second time.

Great thriller... Tom Hanks is superb as always!

This movie is incredible. Tom Hanks is outstanding, and I think this film is totally underrated, especially because you don't often get to see a film about father-son loyalty. Easily in my top 10 favorite films of all time, especially with a stellar cast and a gorgeously sorrowful score.

I guess this is a movie Tom Hanks and Paul Newman made to show they are "AcTors " not just big Hollywood stars.
