The glamourous marriage of an American actress and Parisian intellectual is crumbling under its perfectly posed facade. This entertaining, sardonic tale is packed with references to all things Parisian--actual stories, restaurants, parks, addresses, mores and behaviours. It was the perfect novel to take on a trip to Paris this summer, where I took photos of one of the places she mentions....
I am 3/4 of the way through this book and find it so dull it is painful to read. I thought the book had promise - fashion, Paris, "it girls", nannies, vintage apparel, etc. There is no fashion involved - other than the author mentioning brand names here and there - and every character is, or becomes, unlikeable. This will probably be a candidate for the recycle bin.
This is an exquisitely written book that holds your attention to the end. It is the best book I have read for years.
