If love is an adventure, Kenya McQueen has yet to be embarked upon it. A beautiful L.A. career woman, Kenya works as a senior manager at a prestigious accounting firm, and is on the verge of making partner. But she has yet to find her own partner and a fulfilling personal life. After another Valentine's Day spent working late, Kenya agrees to a blind date with Brian, a sexy and free-spirited landscape architect who is not exactly what she'd pictured for herself. Then again, she does need the yard of her new house fixed up. Her girlfriends are there for her with advice. Kenya's socially prominent parents Joyce and Edmond and womanizing younger brother Nelson also voice their own opinions. But it's when her perfect match, Mark, enters the picture that Kenya is truly thrown into confusion and ultimately, Kenya has to decide for herself what she truly wants.

Caught this film on Oxygen and decided to give it a try. Cute movie. Sure, it's predictable, but not in the way one might think. I had anticipated a lot of ridicule and so forth of Kenya because of her relationship and the fact that the conflict stemmed from something else entirely was a refreshing change. Great movie; very romantic and has several funny moments. Alfre Woodard is great as the annoying Mom, who means well but isn't quite sure how to show it.

A smart, charming, thoughtful romantic comedy about the relationship between a black professional woman and a white landscape designer she hires to renovate her backyard, “Something New” isn’t afraid to delve head-first into issues of privilege, class, and race while developing the sweet romance between the leads. (Bonus points: watch "Something New," then read Alice Childress’s “Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White,” the excellent play on which I am 100% convinced it was based!)

This is likely a very unique -- possibly one of a kind twist on racism and identity. The romantic comedy was disappointing in that there was really no contest between the pretentious same-raced suitor and the unpretentious (very cute) white guy who definitely had to take a few punches or two. the message is good and rings true. it's not easy to decide on your own and if you are lucky you find a few people who are willing to support your right to make your own right or wrong decisions. But don't hold your breath if you don't and don't waste your life being led by others.

Average interracial romantic dramedy. Some interesting social commentary. Seemed overwrought with melodrama and overacting (some of it BAD acting). Big problems with easy fixes. Again.

Lighthearted and easy to watch. Not many surprises, but just a light romantic story.

Hollywood needs to make more films like "SOMETHING NEW", than endless machine-gun-blazer films.

VERY CHARMING, FUNNY & TOUCHING FILM.

Friends sharing laughter, setting personal life plans & goals, pursuing ideals, dreams & expectations & ensuring achievements looks just fine, until LOVE comes along out of no where, when one least expected it nor panned it out.
Suddenly, LOVE breaks all the personal & social rules & unspoken barriers that was erect to keep LOVE on color lines.

For this kind of genre, romantic comedy, I would actually recommend this movie. It has interesting idea behind it that makes you acknowledge that love goes beyond the surface of the skin.

Okay, so typical chick flick style movie, which i happen to love. Plus Simon Baker from the Mentalist. Cute movie.
