Book News
Inaugurates an attractive and useful annual reference series of critical viewpoints in the form of excerpts from significant commentary on the most widely studied (in high school and undergraduate English and humanities courses) dramatists from antiquity to contemporary times. Each author entry begins with a biographical sketch, followed by a list of the writer's major works, and then a large number of critical excerpts on the playwright and his/her major plays. Statements from the dramatist and excerpts from published interviews are included when possible. About 50 illustrations are contained in each volume. Among the authors covered in volume one are Sophocles, Marlowe, Sheridan, Gogol, James Baldwin, Karel Capek, Lillian Hellman, and Arthur Miller. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
