Highly entertaining yet mindful and thought-provoking. The preview looked interesting but the pace, writing and performances of the actors really blew me away! ENJOY!!!!
It was a nice watch and felt like an adult friendship/coming of age type of movie (i.e. like Blockers 2018) more than a Foster Care movie to me. Other similar movies I've watched were Gifted (2017) and The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012) which also revolved around similar themes, but I think those movies were way more age appropriate than this movie. I caught on to a "pie reference" from Octavia Spencer (i.e. we remember her role with pies in "The Help" (2011)).
This movie is better than I expected. Rose Byrne is her usual good and she always managed to find chemistry with her co-stars. Mark Wahlberg is not a bad actor these days. The young kids were good performers too. Good directing, based on a true story, etc...I thought I'd watch half and stop but I watched beginning to end and enjoyed this movie. A little Hollywoody cheesy at parts but not a bad one at all.
I am not a great Mark Wahlberg fan but this movie was outstanding. Just read the other comments. A well worth movie that can be watched anytime of the day and even with the family. Poor Charlie!
A little out of my usual genre, but enjoyable. Good story, good acting.
Found myself as one already wrote...laughing or weeping or both at the same time throughout.
We had foster children in our home when I was a child. As an adult, a few friends have opened their homes for foster to possible adoption, eventually to drop from the program. One recent circumstance was of a friend's sister, who after taking in an older child could not handle the "rejection" purported from him. I knew this child as well, that he had come from similar biological parental circumstances portrayed in this film. He is in a safe place at this time in another setting.
The film did have language I was not preferring, and it is NOT a family film as others so felt. I do however feel this should be one to view and perhaps as an assignment for those thinking of going into the program portrayed.
Love it Thank you! As a former foster kid I appreciate the good people helping! Making this movie and getting this message of love out there.
This movie was a little less of a family movie than I thought it would be. Lots of casual swearing throughout. Also subjects of sexting, and drug addiction. The situations are honest and the movie is good overall, but I’d say ages 12 and up.
Not a family movie. Rated PG13 but it came with a strong parental warning of explicit language, topics, drug references, etc. It was very adult themed for sure!
I would never let my teenager see it, that is for sure.
It is a wonderful movie with loads of colourful characters that push it from average to great. "You'll laugh, you'll cry..." as they say. Enjoy with adults.
Fun movie where viewers get to see how it's not as easy as you may think to adopt. Be ready to laugh and cry. The movie shows a little bit about the process of adoption and how if you fight through the rough parts, there can be happy endings.
Enjoyable and well written. Interesting tib-bits about the adoption process. Rose Byrne helps Mark Wallenberg shine. They looked like they were having a good time filming. Hope she got paid as much as Markie.
A life changing drama on the trials and tribulations of an adoption case, with an excellent balance of humor and harsh reality. The film's wisdom is an excellent reminder and universal of parenthood-101 with biological-step-adoptive children.
I found I was either laughing out loud or weeping, or sometimes both together, throughout the movie.
Enjoyable. Good message. Humorous with a serious subject. Inspiring. We recommend.
We enjoyed this movie very much - quick-moving, believable, funny, touching storyline, emotional - it has it all, and great for family viewing also.
We highly recommend it!
6 stars out of ten!
Funny and honest depiction of a couple's fostering/adoption journey. It covers some pretty mature subject matter such as the foster parents' despair when they couldn't stand the kids, sexting, and the birth mother's crack addiction. A bit sappy at times, but a great movie with a wonderful message of unconditional love.
Super cute movie!! It tackles something that I feel we don't often explore in mainstream film. Heartwarming and inspiring!
Based on actual events, this movie about a raucous, unconventional family adopting foster kids, highlights that love and compassion overtakes the stress of everyday rearing of child behaviours. So, platonic love is meant for everyone, including families. For nothing is going to stop us now!
This was a surprisingly good movie.
Although Wahlberg is the same in every movie, it was enjoyable.
Predictable story arc. Great cast. Nicely offbeat characters throughout. A lot of dry and quirky humor. Foul language is unfortunately rather frequent, but still an enjoyable movie.
